Mail to Messy: Documenting the Rangitāta Valley
Mail to Messy features images made during my role as the rural delivery mailman from Mt Peel to Mesopotamia Station. This 50km stretch of road follows the course of the mighty Rangitata River towards its headwaters in the mountains behind the fabled Mesopotamia Station, inspiration for Samuel Butler’s novel ‘Erewhon’.
This project ran from June 2018 until October 2024. Over those six years I shot over 10,000 frames, so the very small sample below is just a taster!
Some of the early photographs from the project formed the 2019 exhibition ‘Land of the Close Sky’ at Susan Badcock Gallery, Geraldine. Some prints from that exhibition are available on my store.
